HEALING
A brief overview
There is evidence of 'hands on healing' being performed for at least
the last three thousand years. Images of such practices are ubundent,
in the friezes and carvings, that have been unearthed in many ancient
Egyption temples & tombs. References have also been found in
diverse cultures as far afield as the Kahunas, in Polynesia, the
Aboriginal Australians, the traditional Hindu regions of Asia (with
references made in the Sanskrit texts), Chinese and far eastern
writings and also by the Semitic language peoples of Northern Africa,
Turkey & Arabia.
In basic terms, 'healing' is improving and assisting the well-being and
health of a person (or even an animal or plant), whether required due
to injury, illness or stress. It can be transferred by touch (Hands on
Healing) or from a distance (Absent
Healing) ...where the recipient
does not have to be in the same room or even locality as the healer.
Healing is a 'complementary' practice rather than an 'alternative' one,
so it is therefore not in conflict with conventional medicine. Those
receiving treatments can, and should, continue with their 'normal'
medication etc.
Healing can be of benefit to
everybody regardless of their religious
or cultural beliefs. In fact, there is no requirement for the recipient
to hold any religious or spiritual beliefs at all. Animals are
especially 'open' to such treatments, as, unlike people, they do not
possess the interlect ...or scepticism ...that can create a 'barrier'
for the healer to overcome during the channelling of energies.
Over the last twenty years or so, healing has become more widely
accepted by the medical profession world wide, with 'Reiki' methods
being the most widely adopted of all the healing practices. Many
hospices are encouraging patients to undertake a Reiki session, with
many patients benefiting having done so ...reporting being less aware
of any pain they may have been enduring, and simillarly, a reduction in
stress.
Reiki (ray-key) is a technique that manifests itself as a flow, or high
frequency, of 'energy' into and through a practitioner, out of their
hands, and into the recipient. The system of Usui Reiki Ryoho grew out
of the original teachings of Mikao Usui, in Japan, in the early part of
the last century. He called this system 'My System' or Usui-Do. A
typycal Reiki treatment includes placing the hands on or above the
recipient in order to relieve any
restrictions or pain they may have.
Each hand position is held for as long as the practitioner feels is
necessary ...and can last anything from two to ninety minutes. A
treatment creates a wonderful radiance that is both deeply relaxing and
beneficial for client and practitioner alike. Reiki healing, unlike
some doctrines, involves the use of sacred symbols (passed down from
Mikao Usui). The intrinsic value of these is as a focusing aid for the
healer.
Spiritual healers are
able to recognise, locate or 'feel' problem 'hot
spots'. They usually have a heightened sense of empathy and, therefore,
feel a sympathetic or related pain or discomfort in the same location
as that of the person they are treating. This enables the healer to
locate the area that needs aid. Almost all physical pain is 'held' by
the patient themselves ...that is, there is an inabilty within the mind
to release that pain. In extremes some people,
perversely, perhaps
subconciously, actually find a level of comfort from their suffering or
illness. This, obviously, makes the healers task that little more
difficault, but, in any case, once a healer has enabled a degree
of pain relief, the natural healing abilities and systems of the
body are then free to heal the way they were intended to. Throughout
the whole process the patient or recipient is wholly encouraged to be
calm & relaxed, It is not uncommon for recipients to fall asleep
during a session. It is also important for the healer to have gained
the trust of their client before commencement. The mind has to be open
to this sort of practice for it to be successfull ...it is only ever
the intention of good on the part of the healer.
Absent or distant healing can be performed whilst the recipient is in a
wholy different location to the healer, the scale of distance is
irrelevent. It is, however, important for the healer to have either met
the person beforehand, or at least, have access to a photo or image of
that person, in order to visualise the 'subject'. Using this
visualisation technique the healer can then work on the recovery of the
subject by using a very profound thought process. It is also vitally
important that the person receiving the remote healing is aware of it,
that is, they should be the one that has requested this form of healing
...either themselves or through a third party (the healer, in all
cases, must obtain the recipients permission before attempting any
healing practice, crucial in order for the recipient to be open to
receive).
