WELL BEING
Here you will hopefully gain an insight into what it is possible to
achieve for yourself ...to improve your sense of well being. It is
simply a matter of applying simple methods ...and, of course,
applying yourself. 'Self healing' is easily acheivable through
the use of meditation; aided and supplimented by specific herbs, plants
and an appropriate attitude and mind set ...in these technology soaked
times, it is easy to lose sight of the body's abillity to heal itself.
Natural or alternative healing
treatments such as Reiki, herbalism,
homeopathy, acupuncture or any of the many holistic doctrins covered by
the Complementary Therapy umbrella, work, in no small part, because of
the belief the recipient has in the treatment ...this belief stimulates
the body's intrinsic ability to self heal, which works with any
treatment ensuring it is effective and beneficial. Everyone is aware of
the placebo effect that conventional practitioners take advantage of
when the need arises ...this relies, to an even more obvious degree, on
exactly the same processes.
Any natural healing
should work alongside conventional medicine... that
is why it is called complimentary ...and so it follows that no one
should seek help from any complementary therapist without first
ensuring there is no conflict with conventional medicine, or any
treatment a doctor may be prescribing. In terms of complementing one's
healthcare, meditation is the ideal place to start. It allows the body
to fully relax and yet the mind stays
awake, rather like having wakeful
sleep. The mind stays alert enough to address any problems, whatever
their nature ... health issues, domestic or work related stress
...anything that is causing you to feel pain of any sort. Through
meditation an issue can be resolved
by focusing on its cause, not
merely the symptoms. It is therefore possible to isolate a problem and
'wrap up' the cause thus eliminating it.
These methods
combined with herbal practices and a refreshed, positive
way of thinking can lead to a better, healthier sense of well being.
Negativity breeds negativity, conversely, optimism and a brighter
aspect creates the right 'environment' for a problem free existence...
The 'Blue Elephant' phenomenon
...if you were told that you must not think of a blue elephant
...before your conscious mind can work with the idea that a blue
elephant is taboo ...your subconscious mind has instantly created that
image! The image of that blue elephant is already placed in your
thoughts before your intellect has chance to file it under 'taboo'.
This is a good demonstration of the pitfalls we face in achieving the
outcomes we seek in life generally. Frequently thoughts will be focused
on what we do not want to happen ...and as with our friend the blue
elephant ...our subconscious mind will automatically generate images
and thoughts of that which is to be avoided. A person on a diet may say
"I will not have chocolate today" ...a smoker giving up, the same about
cigarettes ...they are doing little more than creating reminders of
exactly the things they should not be thinking of. Optimism and
positive thought starts with just that ...positive thought. Setting out
aims, making mental notes, statements and affirmations in the positive
means that the subconscious will aid in the achievement of those goals.
